To celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of summer in Australia, Embassy English Brisbane held two popular competitions: The Embassy Experience Competition and The Embassy Fun in the Sun Competition. Students were asked to document their personal experiences of studying English in Australia through video diaries. We are proud to share the winning videos, and to express of gratitude for all of the talented and unique submissions we received.
Embassy students were given five weeks to create videos capturing their life in Australia. The judges were very impressed by the creativity and high standard of entries. Viewing these videos gives the staff a glimpse into the amazing experiences the students are having in Australia as we see Brisbane through their eyes and mobile devices. Because of this high quality, two videos were awarded equal first prize.
Max (Holland), Jeremy (Belgium) and Maggi (Mexico) created a colourful, funky, dynamic video capturing the great energy of student life, travel and friendships. This team won Guzman Y Gomez vouchers and a double pass to Dreamworld which was upgraded to a triple pass to include the three winners.
Lessy (Colombia) used a very artistic style and beautiful pace in her video, as we follow Lessy on her journey through Brisbane during different times of the day. Lessy’s video also contains spectacular shots of Australian beaches. The judges felt that Lessy’s video looked like a promotional advertisement for Brisbane and Australia. Lessy won a Guzman Y Gomez voucher and a day tour to Moreton Island.
In his video Anderson (Brazil) used great images of all of Brisbane’s tourist attractions along with class room images. He also captured Brisbane’s blue skies and night lights, the tropical flora and beautiful beaches. Anderson won a Guzman Y Gomez voucher and also a Mojo Surf Weekend Trip.
Carlos (Colombia) used great energetic music and captured a fast paced, dynamic image of Brisbane. The video showed trains, City Cats, people jogging and the vibrancy of Brisbane’s shopping area, the Queen St Mall. Carlos won a Guzman Y Gomez voucher and a week of English lessons at Embassy Brisbane.
This competition was designed so that it was accessible to all students. To enter, students filled in an entry form and wrote down why they liked Embassy in a few words. Students’ names were drawn out of the competition box by Camilla, from Backpacker World Travel, one of the sponsors of the competition.
Some of the comments on entry forms were: I like Embassy English because……
‘I met lots of friends coming from different countries.’
‘Here I found the connection between learning and the future.’
‘It is the best college in Australia.’
‘I`m learning with dedicated teachers and having fun.’
‘The teachers are as beautiful as Cleopatra.’
The Embassy Experience and The Embassy Fun in the Sun competitions build a sense of community at Embassy through this shared experience. It creates a real buzz in the school as students participate in these competitions, and we love to learn more about what the day-to-day lives of our students are really like. Stay tuned for more competitions in the future on our Embassy English Brisbane Facebook page.
