Hi! My name is David Ghenassia and I’m the Summer Activity Manager for the Embassy English School here in sunny Florida. My job is to plan the activities students go on when they’re not in the classroom. Embassy’s Fort Lauderdale location allows me to plan a wide variety of trips. So, let’s explore some of the best locations in Florida!
Miami is one of the most dynamic and multi-cultural cities in Florida with many opportunities for shopping, eating and exploring. Conveniently, it’s less than a one hour trip from our English School here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is the former villa of James Deering (a famous US industrialist and socialite). It’s on Biscayne Bay in the famous Coconut Grove neighbourhood of Miami.
Students can learn about American history from the beautiful paintings, furniture and architecture in the villa-turned-museum. With lush tropical vegetation dotted with Greco-Roman statues and fountains in the gardens, Vizcaya is truly a “must see” for anyone visiting Miami.
If you want to see another side of the city, visit Bayside Marketplace near downtown Miami. This is the perfect place to take a break from the busy hustle of the rest of the city. Walking along Biscayne Bay students can look at yachts, sailboats, and party boats as they cruise in and out of the marina. Alternatively, it’s the ideal spot to buy a refreshing fresh-squeezed fruit drink, relax in the shade and listen to live Latin jazz.
Fort Lauderdale has its own wonderful charms. It’s known as the “Venice of Florida” because of its many canals and waterways.
The cruises are within walking distance of our English school and are a relaxing and interesting way to see the city. On the cruise students will see lush tropical vegetation, luxury yachts, and the multi-million-dollar homes of the rich and famous.
Snorkelling off the Twin Ledges Reef is another way to make the most of the water surrounding Fort Lauderdale. It’s just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale Beach. Students can see all kinds of marine life, including fish, crustaceans and corals. It’s a pretty special way to see the wildlife and natural surroundings of Fort Lauderdale.
Speaking of natural surroundings, kayaking among the mangrove-lined waterways gives you an idea of what South Florida was like before the city was developed in the late nineteenth century.
The waterways feed into the Intracoastal Waterway or the Atlantic Ocean and students love the adventure of paddling their kayaks, taking a break to swim and relax, collect shells, and take pictures.
Kayaking allows students to enjoy some exercise and fresh air, make new friends, work on their tan, and sneak in a few selfies!
In case all these trips seem overwhelming we always leave space to just sit and relax on the beach. The entire Florida coast is lined with beautiful beaches, and with the water at 25 degrees Celsius on average ,so you can take a dip at any time of the year. The beach is close to our English school in Florida and right next to our student residence.
Nothing says South Florida like having your toes in the sand, watching the waves break on the beach and living in the moment!
Embassy English trips always make a lasting impression on our students. They really enjoy these outings and always learn so much.
If you’re planning on improving your English at our English School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I look forward to welcoming you on one my trips and exploring the “Sunshine State” with you!
Thanks,
David
