My Embassy Life: Ligia from Brazil at Embassy English

One of the greatest parts of being a student at Embassy English are the experiences. Students come to Embassy not only to improve their English language skills, but also to explore new parts of the world, to take part in diverse cultural activities, and to meet people from all over the globe. This week, Ligia tells us more about her experience at Embassy English, as part of our series, My Embassy Life

Tell us about yourself! Where are you from and what were you doing before Embassy?

I am a Brazilian journalist who enjoys travelling and meeting people from different cultures. That is the way I do my tourist travelling. Before Embassy I was working for the Brazilian government as a communication’s officer.

What course are you taking at Embassy?

At the moment, I am at the advanced level, but before I was studying for the TOEFL.

What was your level of English before you started Embassy?

My English level when I first tested was eleven and now it is fourteen. I am very glad for that.

Why did you want to learn English abroad?

I find it very stimulating to meet people from different cultures and different parts of the world. I lived in London for some years, but I only came here either on vacation or working. Then I was curious about living in the United States.

What made you choose Embassy English?

I thought Embassy was the best choice for some reasons such as good location, good price-benefit, and the school answered my request very efficiently.

What’s the best thing about learning English with us?

The staff’s efficiency and kindness, the teacher’s level, the location right in the central area, and all the social activities.

How has your English improved?

Definitely, my English was very rusty and I have improved a lot. There is nothing better to improve your English than studied the language at the country where the language is spoken.

What has helped you to improve your English the most?

At school, the great level of teaching – outside, the opportunity to meet different people from all over the world.

The Institute for Contemporary Arts, Quincy Market, and the Boston Common.

Lovely, especially the smoked mussels, and the lobster.

Go around the town trying to understand the Americans in their day-by-day work and leisure routines. I like to try different food every day.

How do you think speaking English will help you in the future?

Oh, definitely! I believe I have brushed up my English in a very fun and efficient way.

What do you plan to do after your English course?

I am going to do a translation/interpreter course; I would like to translate literature. However, I intend to be here a little longer and see more of this vast country.

Who would you most like to say thank you to and why?

I would like to thank Lynne, our English teacher for her deep knowledge of the language and her openness in showing us everything she knows.
