Iconic beaches, amazing teachers and a stunning city-centre location are just 3 of the many awesome reasons to choose Embassy Sydney. Our modern campus is just minutes from shops, nightclubs, museums, and Hyde Park, but undoubtedly one of the best things about studying English with Embassy in Australia is learning how to surf! Each month, Embassy Sydney offers students the opportunity to Bring English to Life at a weekend Surf Camp workshops. Emma Grez, Student Services Manager, shares her experience of learning to surf with Australian Surf Tours.
At Surf Camp, you will learn to surf at one of the most beautiful beaches situated 68 km from Sydney, on the South Coast. You’ll make new friends and also be in contact with Australian fauna and flora (Kangaroos, Rosellas, feed amazing Sting Rays, and more!)
You’ll sleep in a comfortable tent in the beautiful Australian outdoors, and eat delicious healthy food that will give you the energy to surf a total of eight hours. (Yes, 8 hours in two days!) Be sure to relax and enjoy yourself! Don’t panic – if the Embassy Sydney staff can learn to surf, you definitely will too! 🙂
You’ll practice your English skills with so many new people, from locals to your fellow international students, and you will definitely learn new words while having fun.
Swell: Swell or groundswell refers to solid, real waves.
Choppy: Where the surface of the ocean is rough / bumpy
Epic: Top class surf or extremely good waves; description of an awesome wave or surf session
Offshore: This is when the wind at a surf break is blowing off the shore. It makes for ideal surfing conditions.
I personally went for a weekend to experience this activity for myself that everyone loves so much. I have to say I was so impressed with the service; I felt always safe and enjoyed every single moment (back row green surf board next to the yellow …yes the shortest person.) I managed to stand up few times but I spent most of the time on top of the surf board ….but on my tummy. 🙂
