Students choose to study at Embassy English because they want to improve their English language skills with the most qualified teachers. Our diverse teaching staff is dedicated to helping students achieve their goals with fun and engaging interactive classes that help students learn English quickly and easily. At Embassy Sydney, we are blessed with some fabulous, loyal teachers. Three of them have been here for 20+ years. In total, they have 67 years’ teaching experience at Embassy English. Some of them have been working here for longer than some of our students have been alive. Obviously, they love working here and they are truly great.
This week, we caught up with Paul Profilio as part of our Embassy Teachers Sydney series.
Greetings from Embassy Sydney!
My name is Paul Profilio and I’ve been teaching at Embassy for nearly 22 years. I am an extremely fortunate person because I have a passion for both teaching and learning and during my time at Embassy, I have been able to enjoy the challenges and rewards of both.
I have taught a range of different courses from General English (Elementary to Advanced levels), English for Academic Purposes, Cambridge Preparation courses and a variety of elective courses (from conversation courses through to business courses). My experience as a certified oral and written examiner means that I also have able to utilise such experience in my contact with students.
Throughout my teaching career at Embassy I have witnessed numerous changes.
The nationality of Embassy Sydney students is now far more diverse from when I started, and this results in an exciting mix of cultures, which adds another dimension to students’ (and teachers’) learning experience.
The facilities at Embassy Sydney have also experienced change, from improved academic resources such as a very well-equipped library to social amenities such as a new spacious, outside eating and social area for students.
Perhaps the greatest change, however, has come about through the introduction of computer technology to enhance the learning experience, particularly the IWB (or interactive whiteboard). The presence of an IWB in the classroom means that ready access to all the resources and information the internet has to provide is available to students and teachers.
Also, the interactive whiteboards allow a sophisticated presentation of lessons and the ability for students to participate in interactive tasks via the technology.
As I mentioned previously, my time at Embassy has been very rewarding. This is mainly due to the fact that I have seen the positive effect a teacher can have on students’ lives (both in terms of career and personal development and empowerment).
I have kept in contact with many of my ex-students and it is with a measured sense of pride and satisfaction that I feel when I hear of their achievements.« Previous post
