We are delighted to announce that our English in Action programme has been shortlisted for the 2018 PIEoneer Awards in the category of ‘Real Life Learning’. The PIEoneer Awards are very prestigious and recognised globally; it’s a great achievement for Embassy English to be shortlisted.
The Real Life Learning award is to acknowledge educational programmes that integrate education with real life skills. Our English in Action programme just does this, providing a unique combination of English language classroom learning and a business placement offered at three Embassy English locations in the USA; New York, San Diego and San Francisco.
Every student needs to complete at least 4 weeks of English language lessons and be at an upper-intermediate language level prior to undertaking the placement. The programme was developed to give students the opportunity to use the language skills they have learnt in a professional setting.
Gary from Taiwan was placed at the BMW factory in San Francisco and explains more about what the programme entails and how it has helped his English.
We have heard from many alumni of the program, who always state the how the skills gained from English in Action has truly made them competitive in the job market when they return home. Fernanda Catao, former English in Action student placed at RJS Law Firm in 2017, was accepted into Boston School of Law for the Fall 2018 term. Of the English in Action programme she says,
“The English in Action programme has provided me with the opportunity to speak only English for 8 hours every day while working in the field that I love. This experience has improved my English as well as my professional life.”
Read more about Fernanda’s experience here.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff in our US centres, in particular our English in Action coordinators, who continually go above and beyond to ensure our students have the best possible experience on this programme.
The winner will be announced at the PIEoneer Awards to be held in London in the 7th of September 2018.
